school of polysomnography

Our school offers introductory to advanced educational courses for technicians and physicians. Our goal is to advance the knowledge of sleep medicine in the Greater Houston area and beyond. We currently offer four courses. Class size is limited and will reach capacity.  Click on the link below to register and reserve your seat early.

Polysomnography For Technicians
Realizing the demand for professionally trained technicians in sleep medicine, we offer “Polysomnography for Technicians”. These courses include two intensive days of classroom education and three days of “hands-on” clinical hours with our technical staff. At the conclusion of the course, a short written test and a clinical electrode application test is administered to complete the program and receive a Certificate of Completion. Our goal is that the trainee will be able to apply all electrodes and ancillary equipment and have a basic knowledge of Polysomnography.

Course Objectives:
1.) Overview of Normal & Abnormal Sleep
2.) Will complete BLS-CPR Requirements-PSG
3.) Theory and Application of CPAP and Bilevel-PSG
4.) Basics of Neuroanatomy and Respiratory Physiology
5.) Theory and Application of Electrodes and Ancillary Equipment

Clinical Record Review and Scoring
Designed for the advanced technician, this workshop will discuss all pertinent scoring rules and guidelines for sleep staging, EKG arrhythmias, limb movements, and respiratory events. Individuals will begin scoring recordings with technical faculty. Score comparison reports will be generated to offer objective feedback. Technical faculty will also provide feedback in real-time as well as in written form after the recording has been scored in its entirety. You must be working in the field of Polysomnography for at least six months before taking this course. This course will span two days.

Course Objectives:
1.) Overview of Sleep Staging, Scoring Limb Movements, and Scoring Respiratory Events
2.) Overview of sleep recording methodology
3.) Scoring and interpretation of the abnormal polysomnography
4.) Polysomnogram recording artifacts
5.) Scoring and interpretation of the MSLT/MWT
